Lesley Ansell-Shepherd 1953-2015 About Miniature's Expert has passed away.

Lesley Ansell-Shepherd 1953- 2015
I posted this message on my Facebook page but I thought it would be good to put it on my blog too to let more people know, who might not be aware of Lesley's passing. The photo above I took when she brought her new puppy Hobbes over to visit last year. Lesley passed away July 30, 2015. I went to a lovely celebration of her life on Sunday. So many friends and family attended.

It is with a very sad heart that I wanted to tell you that my dear friend, AIM member and About Miniatures Guide, Lesley Shepherd passed away July 30. It has been such a shock to her family and everyone who knew her. She died from complications of advanced cancer.

Lesley and I used to love getting together once a week, to make miniatures and talk. She was always so excited about her projects and came up with such brilliant ideas. I loved her spirit and passion for so many things. She was a full scale garden designer (she had a degree in horticulture) and created wonderful miniature plants as well, but her main passion was sharing her creativity with others and helping them with her ideas at About miniatures. Lesley enjoyed doing projects that were with supplies and techniques that were accessible to everyone and could be done and enjoyed by beginners or by advanced miniaturists. I was honoured to have her as a friend and will really miss her.
Cheers Jean

  3. Jean, this is so shocking! I can't believe it. I looked forward to her post on About.com every week. Such a talented lady. So sorry she passed away. I never even knew she was sick. Very, very sorry. Do you know if About.com will keep her blog up?

  4. Hi Lucille,

I agree that it is so shocking. Lesley didn't know until the last month that she wasn't well, she had had pains before that but thought they were muscular. Just after she was admitted to the hospital, because she was having trouble breathing, she emailed that when she saw me next we would have a lot to catch up on. I have no idea what About.com is going to do, sorry. Thanks for your comment, it is always so lovely to hear how well she was thought of in the miniature community. Cheers, Jean

  5. Hi Jean, I read your Facebook posting so I am going to repeat much of what I had said earlier. I too, was shocked and surprised by Leslie's sudden passing. Although I had never met her in person, I had great respect for her and I, ( like Lucille), I looked forward to her regular About com. posts.
I know that you are really going to miss your friend and the special times that you spent together because you were so close, but it is also a great loss for all of us within the miniature community because she was one of us. She will be remembered as and a very talented and generous lady that inspired many of us with her great gift of creativity.

God grant you and her family, peace.

  10. This is so strange! We are in the blogosphere and everything seems almost like fantasy where no one dies or even gets sick.

I am sorry we have lost Leslie. I have been to her site countless times for years. She was a resource for hundreds if not thousands of miniaturists and I always looked forward to her emails.

Rest In Peace Leslie knowing how many lives you have blessed with your work.

Mary Carmen.
