New Laser Lace Cotton Baby Bunting Clothing Kit in 1:48 or Quarter Scale
I just realized it has been a long time since I have posted, seems the older I'm getting the quicker time flies....really!! Thank you so much to those who sent their regards about Lesley, I will pass them on to her family too.
Above you can see a kit I designed as a shop window filler kit for the Quarter Scale NAME Day that is happening this weekend in Quarter Connection. It is a Quarter Scale Cotton Laser Lace Baby Bunting Clothing Kit. I really enjoyed designing it using some of the kits I had already designed in one twelfth scale. You can see, or not, LOL, the tiny butterfly on the onsies and a bunny on the blue long sleeved shirt.
It is always so much fun and there are so many activities happening in Quarter Connection. For those of you who are not familiar with Quarter Connection, it started in about 1999 by Sally Dohrman, (such a lovely lady who has since passed away) and is a Yahoo Group. I've been a member since about 2001 and started doing quarter scale in the 80's when I would sell the inexpensive furniture through my small mail order shop we had in our home. I would highly recommend the group for either a beginner or someone more experienced in quarter scale miniatures. There is such knowledge in the group with lots of files for accessories and projects. You can be a lurker if you feel shy about talking in a group but it is more fun to get involved.
The kit shown above is going to be divided into the three kits for Shelly's online show the end of October and beginning on Novemeber called Wonders in Miniature and as roundtables in Quarter Conneciton.
Bye for now, Mini Hugs, Jean

Lesley Ansell-Shepherd 1953-2015 About Miniature's Expert has passed away.
Lesley Ansell-Shepherd 1953- 2015 |
I posted this message on my Facebook page but I thought it would be good to put it on my blog too to let more people know, who might not be aware of Lesley's passing. The photo above I took when she brought her new puppy Hobbes over to visit last year. Lesley passed away July 30, 2015. I went to a lovely celebration of her life on Sunday. So many friends and family attended.
It is with a very sad heart that I wanted to tell you that my dear
friend, AIM member and About Miniatures Guide, Lesley Shepherd passed
away July 30. It has been such a shock to her family and everyone
who knew her. She died from complications of advanced cancer.
Lesley and I used to love getting together once a week, to make
miniatures and talk. She was always so excited about her projects and
came up with such brilliant ideas. I loved her spirit and passion for so
many things. She was a full scale
garden designer (she had a degree in horticulture) and created wonderful miniature plants as well, but her
main passion was sharing her creativity with others and helping them
with her ideas at About miniatures. Lesley enjoyed doing projects that
were with supplies and techniques that were accessible to everyone and
could be done and enjoyed by beginners or by advanced miniaturists. I
was honoured to have her as a friend and will really miss her.
Cheers Jean

Alexander Day, An Accomplished Magician, our son's new book Advanced Card Sleights on MagCloud.
Alexander Day, an accomplished magician
Alexander, our son, has been selling magic tricks and cards through
his website AjaxMagic.com since 2002 and on eBay since 2003. He is always so modest about his talent and accomplishments. He has
recently written a wonderful, beautifully illustrated magic sleights book under
his real name of Alexander Day which to can see below that he is selling through and his website http://ajaxmagic.com
Before that time and until the closing of the shop he
sold his original tricks through Tony's Trick and Joke Shop which was later called
Murray's Trick and Joke shop when Murray Hatfield took it over after Tony Eng sadly passed away in 2008. Alexander enjoyed and appreciated working in the shop for 16 years, every
day he would demonstrate all of the tricks and cards tricks sold in the shop as
well as many card and coin tricks of his own, wowing the crowds surrounding
him.
Tony Eng, a wonderful and famous magician from Victoria B.C., who owned the
shop mentored Alex for many years on the art of card magic, insisting he read
all of the great books of card magicians. Alex did many shows for children and
adults in his teens and was very pleased to be
chosen as a magician for Victoria's Totally Teen Talent show for two years.
Later he participated in many magic shows but his first love has always been
close up magic, either with coins or cards. He has created many magic tricks,
card decks and designs his own covers with his artistic talent. Alexander's
passion is magic and anyone seeing his card manipulations is in for a thrill.
I am very pleased to show you Alex's new book "Advanced Card Sleights" on Magcloud
https://www.magcloud.com/browse/issue/836817

When Alex was young he was constantly tossing coins and cards. I used to find cards everywhere!! |
In his teens he enjoyed busking and doing close up magic at the inner harbour. |
Also in his teens he performed magic at the Mill Bay Festival, he looked very handsome. |
"Looking back, it seems to me that I have been a magician for most of my life. I've worked in a magic shop demonstrating close up magic on a daily basis for over 16 years. I grew up with many of the classic close up magic books such as; Expert at the Table, Arthur Bucklys' Card Control, Royal Road to Card Magic, Revolutionary Card Technique and many others. They each contain very good techniques but sometimes they are a bit hard to read and may not have as many illustrations as a student may like.
What I have done in this book is to compile many of these techniques along with many advanced techniques complete with simplified descriptions and more complete illustrations of my own.
This book may not be for beginning magicians who would benefit from more basic books, however, students with basic skills may find this beneficial to their advancement in card magic."
